Welcome to the memorial page for

Shanna Irene Seeley

February 1, 1993 ~ May 16, 2017 (age 24)

On Tuesday, May 16, 2017, Shanna Irene Seeley born February 1, 1993, earned her angel wings at the age of 24.   She was a light to all she met and had friends far and wide who enjoyed her contagious spirit.

Shanna will be dearly missed by her loving parents Richard (Dick) Seeley and Heidi (Cook) Seeley;grandparents Joan Seeley, Larry Seeley (deceased), Harold (Bud) Cook and Margaret (Peg) Cook, Ann Hovey, and Lois Flik; and her brothers Ryan and Sally (Smeelink) Seeley, Cole and Triesch Seeley. She is also survived by her loving nephews Declan Seeley and Eamon Seeley; aunts and uncles Dan and Joy Seeley, Kathy and Clint Morford, Larry Don Seeley, Colleen and Dave DeVree, and John Cook; cousins Barry Seeley, Miranda Seeley, Kayden Seeley, Dustin Wendt, Desi Wendt, Matt DeVree (with whom shared a special bond), Erica DeVree, Elayna Cook, and Nate Cook; along with hundreds more Seeley and Cook relations that she enjoyed spending time with.  Shanna’s life was all about her family and friends who meant the world to her.

Shanna was a former student of Jenison Public Schools (kindergarten - 9th) and graduate of Black River Public School (10th - 12th) where she developed a special bond with her teacher and mentor Kae Groenleer.  After high school, Shanna spent some time attending Hope College via the Ready For Life Academy.

She was a lover of music, especially the group Three Men and A Tenor, and enjoyed listening to local bands OTC, Cover Story, and Mid-Life Crisis. Shanna enjoyed spending time fishing at her cottage on Lake Cecilia in Baldwin (especially with her best fishing buddy, Jim Soles), in addition to snowmobiling around the Fife Lake area.  She also loved Disney World and anything Disney. Shanna was a certified weather spotter, who loved storms and listening for warning sirens, knowing the location and name brand of each one in every town across West Michigan.   She had a love of vacuums, wood chippers, weed-whippers, and leaf blowers (for which she had her very own.)  Shanna enjoyed working at the John Ball Zoo as a volunteer and caring for the animals in the red barn by the petting zoo. She loved going out to eat to her “regular places” of Pizza Hut, Rainbow Grille, Oakridge (Newaygo), Natahka (Baldwin), and Jones’s Ice-Cream (Baldwin).  She always looked forward to attending the Blessing of the Bikes each year and riding with her cousin Brian and friend Al. Shanna grew up listening to many different types of music with her father.  Shanna could usually be found arm-in-arm with her mother, Heidi, the dynamic duo.

Shanna loved animals, especially donkeys and her pet Chihuahuas; Patty (deceased), Mimi (deceased), Nellie Belle, and Dora.

Shanna will be dearly missed by her close group of friends with Williams Syndrome from around the world, who she spent many summers with while attending a camp in the Grand Rapids area.

Shanna found an additional family of brothers and sisters in the amazing doctors, nurses, and staff from St. Mary’s Hospital (Mayo Clinic – Rochester, MN) that lovingly cared for her over the last few months on “Francis 5 C.”

A celebration of life to honor Shanna will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Williams Syndrome Association’s (WSA) Medical Treatment Assistance Fund, or the Mayo Clinic, in honor of Shanna Seeley and her courageous battle.
